It refers to side light optic fiber of diameter less than 3mm, its material and configuration are similar to those of step index PMMA plastic optical fiber. The difference is that it glows evenly following the side of the fiber in a linear fashion, which gives it a whole-body-emitting effect.
The single-core end-light optical fiber is buffered in one or several layers of polymer, usually black PE jacket or black PVC jacket, for protection of the fiber. With regular cut points on the surface of end-light fiber called star-twinkling optical fiber, and a bundle of such fiber jacketed in transparent PVC, called star twinkling fiber cable.
